Interface Tour
Understand the ProPaving interface and where to find all the tools and information you need.
Interface Overview
The ProPaving interface is designed for efficiency. Here are the main areas you'll work with:
Map Canvas (Center)
The main satellite imagery view where you draw measurements. This is where you'll spend most of your time. Pan by clicking and dragging, zoom with scroll wheel or pinch gestures.
Toolbar (Top)
Contains all drawing tools, address search, and action buttons. The toolbar adapts based on what you're doing - showing drawing controls when you're placing points, or editing tools when you have a selection.
Measurements Panel (Right)
Lists all measurements in your project with their calculated values. Shows totals at the bottom. Click measurements to select them on the map. Manage colors, names, and visibility here.
Items Panel (Left, Mobile)
Organizes measurements by category. Shows totals per category type (Area, Linear, Count). On mobile, this appears as a bottom sheet that you can swipe up.
Properties Panel (Right)
Edit project name, address, and notes. Toggle display options like showing area labels on the map. Located below the Measurements Panel.
The Toolbar
The toolbar contains all the tools you need to create and edit measurements. Here's what each section does:
Address Search
Type any address to quickly navigate. Includes a "Locate Me" button to center on your current position.
Drawing Tools
Select mode (arrow), Area tool (polygon), Line tool, Cutout tool, Distance ruler, and Text annotation. The active tool is highlighted.
AI Detection
The sparkle button activates AI-powered boundary detection to automatically trace paved areas.
Edit Actions
Undo, Redo, Delete, Clear All, and Duplicate buttons. These affect selected measurements.
Drawing Controls
When drawing, shows a point counter (e.g., "3 pts") and Finish/Cancel buttons. These appear only when you're actively placing points.
Map Controls
Additional controls appear on the map itself:
Parcel Overlay (Bottom Left)
Toggle button to show property boundary lines from public records. Helpful for verifying lot boundaries. Only visible when zoomed in enough (zoom level 14+).
Imagery Control (Bottom Right)
Collapsible card to switch map providers (Google, Bing, Mapbox) and view historical satellite imagery when available.
Zoom Controls
Plus/minus buttons for zooming. Also use scroll wheel or pinch gestures for faster navigation.
Map Type Toggle
Switch between satellite and map views. Satellite is the default for measurement work.
Measurements Panel
The Measurements Panel is your command center for all measurements in the project.
Each Measurement Shows:
- Color indicator - Click to change the color
- Name - Click to rename (e.g., "Main Lot", "Drive Lane")
- Value - Square feet for areas, linear feet for lines
- Visibility toggle - Eye icon to show/hide on map
- Lock toggle - Prevent accidental edits
- Delete button - Remove the measurement
Totals Section:
At the bottom of the panel, you'll see aggregate totals:
- Total Area: Sum of all area measurements (square feet)
- Total Perimeter: Combined perimeter of all polygons (feet)
- Total Linear: Sum of all line measurements (feet)
Note: Without an active subscription, measurement values appear blurred. Subscribe to reveal all calculations.
Mobile Interface
On phones and tablets, the interface adapts for touch:
- Bottom toolbar: Drawing tools move to the bottom for easier thumb access
- Swipe-up sheet: Measurements panel becomes a bottom sheet you can drag up
- Larger touch targets: Buttons are sized for finger taps
- Touch drawing: Tap to place points, pinch to zoom
- Collapsible panels: More map space when panels are hidden
Tip: For detailed work, we recommend using a tablet or desktop. Mobile is great for quick field measurements or reviewing projects on-site.
