Categories
Organize your measurements by type for better tracking and reporting.
Category Types
ProPaving supports three types of categories, each designed for different measurement needs:
Area Categories
For square footage measurements. Examples:
- Sealcoat
- Overlay
- Patching
- Mill & Pave
Linear Categories
For linear feet measurements. Examples:
- Striping
- Curb & Gutter
- Crack Sealing
- Edge Work
Count Categories
For counting items. Examples:
- Parking Stalls
- ADA Spaces
- Wheel Stops
- Speed Bumps
Using Categories
Assigning a Category
When you create a new measurement, you can assign it to a category:
- Open the Items Panel (left side or mobile bottom sheet)
- Find your desired category
- Click "Add" or the + button next to the category
- Draw your measurement as usual
- The measurement is automatically assigned to that category
Changing Categories
To move a measurement to a different category, use the measurement's dropdown menu and select "Move to Category".
The Items Panel
The Items Panel organizes all your measurements by category:
Expand/collapse categories by clicking their headers. Grand totals appear at the bottom.
Managing Categories
Company admins can create and manage custom categories in Settings:
- Go to Settings → Company
- Scroll to the Categories section
- Click "Add Category" to create a new one
- Set the name, type (Area/Linear/Count), and color
- Click "Save"
Note: Categories are shared across all projects in your company. Changes affect all team members.
Default Categories
New companies start with these default categories:
Area

Linear
- • Striping
- • Crack Seal
- • Curbing
Count
- • Stalls
- • ADA Spaces
- • Markers
You can edit, delete, or add to these defaults as needed.
